Dermoelectroporation (DEP)

We’ve all heard of collagen and elastin and their role in helping to keep the skin firm and elastic, but there’s another molecule that keeps the skin plump and bouncy. Hyaluronic acid. It is one of a series of molecules that makes up a large part of the skin’s structure.

This molecule is often used in skin cremes for its water retaining properties, but it is too large to be absorbed into the skin. It is one of the substances used in dermal fillers.

Healthy skin produces more hyaluronic acid that unhealthy skin, but time and the sun cause greater decrease than increase. That’s why when people over 40 look back at photos of themselves they notice how plump their skin used to be. This lack of fullness also contributes to how the skin falls with the passage of time. Being able to restore hyaluronic acid levels means restoring volume and that results in lift, improving sag and wrinkling.

Of course, a skin that is healthy will respond to this treatment better than a skin that is not. Why? Hyaluronic acid (HA) not only stores a great deal of water, but it is also involved in tissue repair. When skin is exposed to UV rays, it becomes inflamed and the skin stops producing as much HA and increases the rate of its degradation. When it degrades, wastes accumulate in the skin. Because it is critical to the structural integrity of the collagen matrix of the skin, its loss affects collagen, elastin and other important skin molecules. The more damage from years of sun exposure, smoking, drinking, lack of sleep etc, the more rebuilding work there is to do in the skin. For this reason skin that has already addressed the issues of damage will get a tenfold result compared to a skin that hasn’t.

For that reason we often recommend other treatments to accompany DEP treatments so that we can address all of the issues of ageing and every DEP treatment requires exfoliation prior to ensure penetration is not hindered by dead cell material.

However, treatments can be performed at any time and for any skin and still provide fantastic results. Generally, for skin that is not in top condition more treatments may be required and may need more regular maintenance treatments since HA is broken down and rebuilt over 24 hour periods. More treatments build longer lasting results but maintenance is always required as, alas, ageing continues.

In the coming months we will also be working on sculpting the body through dissolving fat with this great new tool and better targeting that plague on womanhood – cellulite!

Keep in mind also, that HA keeps ALL skin plump and bouncy and thus can target other problem areas such as the inner arm, thighs and décolleté. Treatments can be tailored just for eyes or necks as well.

Since DEP is an electrical treatment it is not suitable for use during pregnancy, breastfeeding or for people who have pacemakers or are sensitive to electrical currents. A thorough health check will be performed before any treatment can proceed.

Before I found your clinic I was considering surgery for my baggy eyelids but since having the laser treatments I don’t need to worry about it. I’m really happy with the way the treatments have worked and I don’t look like I’m tired all the time anymore. I would recommend this treatment to anyone thinking of surgery.
